Sifa Za Kujiunga Na Chuo Cha DIT Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology 2023/2024

The establishment of the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT) was authorized by the DIT Act No 6 of 1997, which replaced the Dar es Salaam Technical College which had been providing technical education in Tanzania since 1957. The original intention of the Dar es Salaam Technical Institute was to provide professional training across the country. The Institute was later renovated in 1962 and became the first official technical training institution in Tanzania, offering technical secondary school courses and training for Technical Assistants.

Today, the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology operates three campuses, namely the Main Campus in Dar es Salaam, the Mwanza Campus in the Mwanza Region, and the Myunga Campus in the Songwe Region. The institute offers approximately twenty-nine applied sciences, engineering, and professional training programs that lead to the awards of Basic Technical Certificates, Ordinary Diplomas, Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Technology, and Master’s Degrees.

If you are interested in enrolling at the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology, it is important to note that there are certain requirements that you must meet. For certificates and courses, you must have completed your secondary education. For a diploma or degree, you must be an advanced-level graduate and have earned at least three credit passes from your Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE).

To be eligible for admission under the direct scheme, candidates must have a CSEE with at least four passes (D grade or better) in Physics/Engineering Science, Mathematics, and Chemistry, as well as any other subject except religious subjects.

For admission into the Ordinary Diploma (NTA LEVEL 4-6) in Science and Laboratory Technology, Biomedical Equipment Engineering, and Food Science and Technology, applicants must have a CSEE grade of D or higher or possess a General Certificate Course in Engineering (GCE).

Bachelor’s Degree (NTA Level 7-8) program

Additionally, to be eligible for admission into a three-year Bachelor’s Degree (NTA Level 7-8) program, candidates must have an Ordinary Diploma (NTA Level 6) or its equivalent in the respective field, with a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 from a National Regulating Authority-recognized institution and at least four passes (D grade or higher) in relevant subjects at CSEE or GCE or NVA Level III or T.

Alternatively, candidates can hold a good Full Technician Certificate (FTC) or its equivalent in the relevant field from a recognized institution by the National Regulating Authority with an average of minimum pass of C or an average of minimum 3 points based on the following conversion scale: A=5, B=4, C=3, D=2 or it’s equivalent and at least four passes (D grade or higher) in the relevant subjects at CSEE or GCE or Trade Test Certificate of Grade I in the relevant field with a minimum of D grade in Mathematics at CSEE.

Master’s program

Finally, candidates with NTA level 8 credentials or equivalent who meet one of the following prerequisites will be considered for admission to the Master’s program: (i) Applicants must hold a Bachelor of Engineering degree with a GPA of at least 2.7 from a recognized higher learning institution, (ii) Applicants must have a Bachelor of Engineering degree with PASS from a recognized higher learning institution and three years of professional experience, or (iii) Advanced Diploma in Engineering with a PASS from a recognized higher learning institution and at least three years of professional experience.
