Kampala International University (KIU), Main Campus – Webometrics, the most significant academic ranking of higher education institutions in the world since 2004, has once again ranked KIU as the top private university in Uganda orders and the second-ranked university in Uganda overall, trailing only Makerere University. This ranking was released in January 2023.

The last 12 months have seen no change in this rating. Mbarara University of Science and Technology finished in third, followed by Gulu University and Kyambogo University in that order. KIU is the fourth-ranked private institution in the East Africa area, after Makerere University in the first place, the University of Nairobi in second place, and the University of Dar es Salaam in third place.

When asked about the most recent ranking, the vice chancellor responded, “Maintaining this ranking for more than a year is a sign of how a private university is delivering on all fronts, including teaching, research, innovation, and community engagement.” We are honored to be the top private university once more and a testament to KIU’s tenacity and perseverance in adversity.
